The male plant:
This tree is relatively unknown in Singapore though it can be found growing in the wild area in some parks. It is considered a non-native tree based on the 2009 Singapore Flora Checklist. It is quite well known in Philippines and go by the local name Bignay. There were reports on its medicinal value based on compounds extracted from this tree. Its fruits were even used in the production of a local wine. The name Mao Luang is its local name in Thailand.
It is one of the heritage trees, planted in 1926 and located in the Singapore Botanical Gardens.
